The Chief Executive Officer of the OQ Movement, Mr Isaac Obo Quansah, has supported the Odambea Festival Planning Committee with a GH¢23,000 sponsorship package to facilitate activities marking this year’s annual cultural celebration by the chiefs and people of Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The package comprises a direct cash donation of GH¢5,000 and health-related sponsorship support valued at GH¢18,000 for a health screening exercise and health walk organised as part of the festival activities.
The contribution is expected to strengthen a successful celebration while supporting initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage and promoting community development within the Nkusukum Traditional Area.
Presenting the support to traditional leaders and members of the festival planning committee, Mr Quansah underscored the importance of cultural celebrations in promoting unity, strengthening social bonds and creating opportunities for economic development.
He noted that festivals such as Odambea provide important platforms for communities to reconnect with their history, celebrate their cultural identity and mobilise resources towards development.
Mr Quansah also reaffirmed the commitment of the OQ Movement to supporting initiatives that promote community development, youth empowerment and socio-economic advancement across Saltpond and its surrounding communities.
Receiving the sponsorship package, representatives of the Odambea Festival Planning Committee expressed appreciation to Mr Quansah and the OQ Movement for their generosity and commitment to the celebration.
The committee acknowledged that contributions from individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other stakeholders play a significant role in ensuring the successful organisation of the annual festival.
It therefore encouraged other well-meaning individuals, corporate institutions, citizens living abroad and philanthropists to support the celebration, stressing that collective contributions would help preserve the area’s cultural heritage and enhance the festival.
The Odambea Festival is an important annual cultural celebration of the chiefs and people of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, with Saltpond serving as its traditional centre.
The festival serves as a major cultural homecoming, bringing together traditional authorities, citizens, residents, dignitaries and visitors from across Ghana and beyond.
It provides an opportunity for the people to commemorate their historic migration, celebrate their cultural identity, promote traditional values and reflect on the development aspirations of their communities.
Beyond its cultural significance, the festival also creates opportunities for social interaction, tourism promotion, local business activities and the mobilisation of resources for community development.
The GH¢23,000 sponsorship package from Isaac Obo Quansah represents a significant contribution towards this year’s celebration, combining direct financial assistance with support for health-related activities to promote community well-being.
