Police Investigate Deaths of Two Women Found in Tamale Hotel as IGP Deploys Special Investigation Team

The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into the deaths of two women whose bodies were discovered in a hotel room in Tamale, with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) deploying a special team from the National Police Headquarters to support the probe.
According to a press release issued by the Northern Regional Police Command on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the bodies were found in a room at the Cab Hospitality Hotel, located in the Gbewa Residential Area of Tamale, on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Police said officers responded promptly after receiving a report from the hotel management. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the two women, who are believed to be nationals of Benin.
The bodies have since been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The Police indicated that investigators are working to establish the identities of the deceased, determine the circumstances leading to their deaths, and coordinate with the appropriate authorities to notify and support their families.
In a move highlighting the seriousness of the case, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special investigative team made up of experienced detectives, intelligence officers and crime scene experts from the National Police Headquarters to reinforce the Northern Regional Police Command’s ongoing investigations.
The additional personnel are expected to assist with forensic analysis, intelligence gathering and other investigative processes aimed at uncovering the facts surrounding the incident and identifying any persons who may have been involved.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public to assist with the investigation by providing any credible information that could aid investigators. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Police through the emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest police station.
Police have assured the public that every effort is being made to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bring anyone found culpable to justice. Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
