The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wassa Amenfi East, Raymond Nana Ebbah, together with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, has cut sod for the construction of two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds for the Wassa Dawurampong and Jukwa-Hemang communities.
The facilities, fully financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), are expected to significantly expand healthcare access and strengthen primary health delivery in the municipality, particularly for residents in the beneficiary communities and surrounding villages.
MCE Raymond Nana Ebbah noted that while every community in the municipality will benefit from at least one DACF-funded project, the decision to prioritize CHPS compounds for Dawurampong and Jukwa-Hemang was influenced by the communities’ collective support for the MP and former President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 elections.
He explained that the final decision was reached through a consensus involving the MP, NDC constituency executives, the council of elders, and assembly members from both electoral areas. Nana Ebbah also offered an apology to the chiefs and people of the two communities for the delay in commencing the project, citing paperwork, documentation, and approval processes for the contract sum as the main reasons for the holdup.
The MCE assured residents of regular monitoring visits to ensure contractors deliver high-quality work. He further pledged transparency and accountability in the use of the assembly’s share of the Common Fund, promising additional development projects that address both infrastructure deficits and socio-economic needs.
Mr. Ebbah encouraged residents to take advantage of the government’s free National Apprenticeship Programme, which provides hands-on experience and industry-ready skills for young people. He added that apprentices and their trainers (masters or madams) will receive monthly stipends, describing the initiative as a vital tool for reducing youth unemployment and promoting economic independence in Amenfi East.
He also urged the public to enroll in the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative, an NDC policy aimed at boosting domestic poultry production, conserving foreign exchange, and creating sustainable jobs. Beneficiaries, he said, will receive free birds, feed, and other supplies needed to establish viable poultry businesses and transition from subsistence activities to stable livelihoods.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, acknowledged the long-standing challenges residents face in accessing quality healthcare, with many forced to travel long distances to receive medical attention. He expressed optimism that the new CHPS compounds will help resolve these challenges and bring essential services closer to the people.
The chiefs of Dawurampong and Jukwa-Hemang expressed gratitude to the MP and MCE for prioritizing their communities but appealed for timely completion of the projects to ensure residents can begin benefiting soon.
