At least 41 people, including four police officers, were injured when a swarm of bees attacked the Daavi Blessed Police Station at Gomoa Amoada Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
One of the victims is reported to be in critical condition and receiving urgent medical attention, while the remaining 40 sustained varying degrees of injuries after being stung multiple times.
According to reports, the bees had formed a hive inside a faulty tipper truck parked beside the police station. The situation escalated when the vehicle’s owner reportedly opened the bonnet, disturbing the swarm. The agitated bees quickly spread through the area, attacking residents, passersby, and officers on duty.
Speaking in an interview, one of the victims, Sakora Ahiadome, recounted the terrifying ordeal. He said he attempted to spray the bees in a bid to control the situation but narrowly escaped serious harm.
“One person is in critical condition and urgently needs medical attention, or he could die,” he stated.
Sakora further disclosed that the bees also attacked animals in the vicinity, killing three fowls. He added that police officers at the station were trapped indoors for nearly three hours as the aggressive swarm surrounded the premises, leaving them stranded, hungry, and unable to step outside.
The shocking incident has left the community shaken and sparked concerns about safety measures when dealing with bee infestations, particularly in public spaces. Residents are calling for swift action to remove hives in populated areas and to educate the public on how to respond during such emergencies to prevent future occurrences.
