MTN Ghana Donates GH¢32,000 Package to Support Oguaa Fetu Afahye 2026

MTN Ghana has donated a support package worth GH¢32,000 to the Oguaa Traditional Council to aid preparations for this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations in Cape Coast.

The package comprises a GH¢30,000 cash donation, GH¢2,000 worth of airtime, and an assorted drinks hamper, reaffirming MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting cultural heritage, traditional institutions and community development across the country.

The donation was presented at the Oguaa Palace on Thursday by Mr. David Woasey, Area Manager for MTN’s Western and Central Regions, on behalf of the telecommunications company.

MTN Reaffirms Commitment to Ghanaian Culture

Presenting the package, Mr. Woasey said MTN Ghana considers the preservation and promotion of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage an important component of its corporate social investment initiatives.

He congratulated the chiefs and people of Oguaa on the celebration and expressed the company’s best wishes for a peaceful, successful and memorable Fetu Afahye.

According to him, supporting traditional festivals such as Fetu Afahye provides an opportunity for corporate institutions to strengthen their relationship with communities while contributing to the preservation of Ghana’s cultural identity.

30 Years of MTN Ghana and Ambition 2030

Mr. Woasey also used the occasion to highlight MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary, being celebrated under the theme “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.”

He expressed appreciation to MTN customers, traditional authorities and communities across Ghana for their loyalty and partnership over the past three decades, noting that their support has contributed significantly to the company’s growth, network expansion and community-focused initiatives.

He further outlined MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2030 strategy, which seeks to position the company as a key enabler of Ghana’s digital and socioeconomic transformation.

The strategy focuses on three major areas:

Expanded Connectivity: Providing fast, reliable and resilient voice and data connectivity to communities across the country.

Fintech Inclusion: Expanding access to mobile financial services through MoMo, while supporting financial inclusion and local economic activity.

Digital Infrastructure: Strengthening Ghana’s digital ecosystem to support innovation, business development and broader socioeconomic growth.

Mr. Woasey noted that the objectives of Ambition 2030 are closely aligned with the spirit of Fetu Afahye, which promotes community solidarity, renewal, cultural identity and collective development.

Oguaa Traditional Council Commends MTN

Receiving the donation on behalf of Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Elicot Nana Kweku Okyere, Secretary of the Fetu Afahye Planning Committee, expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for its continued support.

He commended the telecommunications company for consistently partnering with the Oguaa Traditional Council and supporting initiatives that promote the cultural heritage and development of the area.

He said MTN Ghana’s contribution would help strengthen preparations for the festival while demonstrating the importance of collaboration between corporate institutions and traditional authorities.

Fetu Afahye Attracts Visitors to Cape Coast

The Oguaa Fetu Afahye is one of Ghana’s prominent traditional festivals and is celebrated annually in Cape Coast by the people of Oguaa.

The festival brings together residents, traditional leaders, domestic visitors, tourists and members of the Ghanaian diaspora for a series of cultural, traditional and social activities.

The celebrations typically provide an important platform for showcasing the history and traditions of Oguaa while promoting tourism, local businesses, community engagement and cultural preservation.

MTN Ghana’s contribution is therefore expected to complement the efforts of the Oguaa Traditional Council and the Fetu Afahye Planning Committee as preparations intensify for this year’s festivities.
