“Is It Fair?” — Ekumfi Twafohen Nana Impream VIII Laments Months-Long Water Shortage Amid Winneba–Mankessim Road Works

The Chief of Eyisam and Twafohen of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Elder Dr. Nana Impream VIII, has expressed deep concern over the prolonged shortage of potable water affecting several communities in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region.

According to the traditional leader, the situation has become increasingly worrying, particularly as residents have reportedly been deprived of reliable access to potable water for several months.

In a statement shared on his WhatsApp status, Elder Dr. Nana Impream VIII said the ongoing construction and expansion of the Winneba–Mankessim Road must not come at the expense of essential services, particularly access to safe drinking water.

He stressed that road development should be carried out in a manner that protects the basic needs and welfare of communities along the project corridor.

“No Ekumfi community should be deprived of potable water supply because of road construction,” Elder Dr. Nana Impream VIII stated.

The Chief of Eyisam further alleged that the water crisis has affected almost all communities within the Ekumfi District, attributing the disruption to activities associated with the dualisation of the Winneba–Mankessim Road.

He said residents have endured the situation for months and are increasingly concerned about the impact of the water shortage on households, schools, businesses and other essential activities.

“Almost all communities in Ekumfi have been deprived of potable water supply for some months now due to the dualisation of Winneba–Mankessim Road,” he said.

Expressing his frustration over the situation, Elder Dr. Nana Impream VIII directly appealed to the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, asking whether it was fair for communities to suffer prolonged water shortages because of a major road project.

“Your Excellency, Mr. President, PLEASE, IS IT FAIR?” he asked.

The traditional leader has therefore called on President Mahama, relevant government agencies, contractors and other authorities responsible for the road project and water supply to urgently intervene and restore potable water to the affected communities.

He emphasised the need for a coordinated approach between the authorities and the contractors to ensure that infrastructure development does not leave residents without access to essential public services.

Elder Dr. Nana Impream VIII said the affected communities deserve immediate attention and urged the authorities to treat the matter as an emergency to alleviate the difficulties residents are currently facing.

He further appealed for sustainable measures to be put in place to prevent similar disruptions in the future, particularly as major infrastructure projects continue to take place across the Ekumfi District.

The Chief’s concerns come amid ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure along the Winneba–Mankessim corridor, with residents calling for development projects to be implemented without compromising access to basic amenities.
