President Mahama Directs Expansion of Security Services Recruitment

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a significant expansion of recruitment into Ghana’s security services following a high-level meeting with key security and government officials at the Presidency.
The meeting brought together the Heads of Security Agencies, the Minister for the Interior, and the Acting Minister for Defence to review the ongoing nationwide security recruitment exercise.
According to a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the President ordered an increase in recruitment numbers after receiving a comprehensive briefing on the process.
Under the new directive, recruitment into the various security agencies will be expanded from 20,000 personnel to 40,000 personnel over a four-year period.
The move, government officials say, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen national security capacity, improve public safety, and enhance operational readiness across the country’s security architecture.
President Mahama also emphasized the need for transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection, instructing the leadership of all security agencies to ensure that the recruitment process remains credible and free from irregularities.
He stressed that equal opportunity must be guaranteed for all qualified applicants, underscoring the government’s commitment to professionalism and public trust in the security services.
Officials present at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, and the National Security Coordinator.
Also in attendance were the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of Prisons, the Director-General of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission.
The expanded recruitment is expected to create thousands of employment opportunities for young Ghanaians while reinforcing the country’s ability to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.
