The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network is commemorating a decade of empowering women of African descent across the continent and the diaspora with a year-long celebration combining intellectual discourse, public health advocacy, fundraising initiatives, and high-level networking events.
Currently operating in eleven countries — Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, the United States of America, and Ghana, where its headquarters is located — the Network has unveiled a comprehensive timetable of activities to mark its 10th anniversary. The celebrations will run from June to October 2026.
At the heart of the anniversary programme is the 10th Anniversary Public Lecture, scheduled for June 10, 2026. The event is expected to bring together thought leaders, policymakers, and young women from across Africa and the diaspora to reflect on a decade of impact while charting a forward-looking agenda for Pan-African women’s leadership.
As part of its health advocacy efforts, the Network will launch a Mega 10th Anniversary Health Walk Against Cervical Cancer on July 4, 2026, in Accra, Ghana. The initiative will simultaneously take place across YAWC chapters worldwide, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to women’s health awareness.
The Pan-African women’s network will also unveil its Legacy Project during a fundraising ceremony scheduled for August 14, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony expected later in the year.
The celebrations will climax with the Young African Women Congress 2026 Annual Global Convocation, slated for October 25–30, 2026, in Accra. The gathering is projected to be the largest in the Network’s history, bringing together women from across the globe. Activities will include workshops, leadership training, strategic planning sessions, presentations, panel discussions on women’s development, a business expo, and cultural exhibitions.
A special thanksgiving service on October 29, 2026 — the penultimate day of the convocation — will provide an opportunity for reflection and gratitude for the Network’s journey over the past decade.
The official anniversary branding, featuring the iconic YAWC logo alongside a bold “10th Anniversary” ribbon, will be displayed throughout all commemorative events, symbolizing the organization’s achievements and its continued commitment to empowering young women of African descent.
Through the anniversary activities — including the public lecture, health advocacy campaign, legacy project launch, fundraising efforts, and global convocation — the Network aims to renew calls for stronger action toward gender equality and enhanced women’s leadership across Africa and the diaspora.
Founded in 2016, the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network is a dynamic Pan-African organization dedicated to connecting and empowering young women across Africa and its diaspora.
