Midnight Fire Guts Parts of Nima Market, Destroying Traders’ Goods and Property

A fire outbreak swept through sections of the Nima Market in Accra late Monday night, destroying goods and properties belonging to several traders.

The blaze reportedly started at about 11:20 p.m., sending panic through the bustling commercial area as flames rapidly engulfed parts of the market. Traders, residents, and passersby rushed to the scene in an attempt to save merchandise and prevent the fire from spreading.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly and managed to bring the situation under control before the flames could spread to nearby shops and structures.

Residents praised the firefighters for their swift intervention, noting that their efforts averted what could have become a major disaster in one of Accra’s busiest trading hubs.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Traders Count Losses

By Tuesday morning, affected traders and residents had gathered at the market to assess the extent of the destruction and salvage any items that survived the inferno.

Some were seen sifting through heaps of debris, while others attempted to recover partially burnt goods from their shops and stalls.

Although the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined, several traders are believed to have suffered significant financial losses.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service are expected to begin investigations after completing preliminary assessments at the scene to determine what triggered the outbreak.

The latest incident has once again raised concerns about the recurring fire outbreaks in markets across Accra.

Over the years, numerous market fires have destroyed goods worth millions of cedis, leaving traders devastated and renewing calls for improved fire safety measures, regular electrical inspections, and better emergency preparedness in major commercial centers.
