The Nananom of the Nkusukum Traditional Area have performed the necessary customary rites and rituals following the fall of the area’s Ancient Sacred Tree, paving the way for chainsaw operators to begin cutting and clearing the fallen tree to restore normal activities in the community.
Speaking to NewsAfricaGhana’s Solomon Kobina Acquah (Paa Solo Savvy), the Gyaasehen of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Badu, disclosed that traditional authorities had on several occasions considered felling the sacred tree due to concerns about its condition.

However, all efforts and consultations regarding its removal proved unsuccessful.
According to Nana Badu, the ancestral deity associated with the tree had revealed through traditional consultations that the tree would fall naturally at the appointed time rather than be cut down by human intervention.
“Our old god revealed to us that at the appointed time, it would fall by itself,” he stated.

He explained that the traditional council continues to observe all customary rites associated with the sacred tree, although meetings and related activities are now held at the palace rather than at the tree’s location as was previously the practice.
Nana Badu further urged residents of the Nkusukum Traditional Area to comply with directives issued by the Nkusukum Traditional Council following the incident in order to prevent any further inconveniences or safety risks.
Touching on the condition of the victim who was injured during the incident, he revealed that the young man was initially admitted to Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital in Mankessim before being transferred to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for further treatment.

According to reports received by the traditional authorities on Saturday morning, June 20, the victim is responding positively to treatment and his condition continues to improve.
The fall of the ancient sacred tree has drawn significant attention across the area, with many residents viewing the event as a historic moment due to the tree’s cultural and spiritual significance to the Nkusukum Traditional Area.
